This presentation by My Exemption Check explores portability — the ability to transfer significant property tax benefits (such as the Florida Save Our Homes assessment difference) — as a valuable, sometimes under-appreciated marital asset in divorce settlements.
Portability can save thousands of dollars in ongoing property taxes, but without careful analysis and intentional negotiation, one spouse may unknowingly forfeit this benefit during property division.
