Conference 2026 Day 1

March 13 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
My Exemption Check on Portability – 9:00-10:15am

In Collaborative Practice, achieving a fair, transparent, and lasting settlement hinges on uncovering and accurately valuing all marital assets — including those that are often overlooked. This presentation by My Exemption Check explores portability — the ability to transfer significant property tax benefits (such as the Florida Save Our Homes assessment difference) — as a valuable, sometimes under-appreciated marital asset in divorce settlements.

Portability can save thousands of dollars in ongoing property taxes, but without careful analysis and intentional negotiation, one spouse may unknowingly forfeit this benefit during property division. This session will help Collaborative professionals understand what portability is, why it matters in a financial settlement, and how to integrate portability considerations into the Collaborative process to protect client interests.
