Course Description:

The Collaborative Divorce Process offers an exciting and rewarding opportunity for psychologists to assist families and children during the divorce process. The Mental Health Facilitator has a comprehensive, facilitative, and multifaceted role. They participate in every Collaborative interaction within this legal process, screening for issues that may hinder negotiation and providing interventions to resolve problems as they arise.

Modern divorces incorporate various aspects of diversity that may involve the couple, their children, potential partners, or others. These issues present challenges to the Collaborative Process, the professional team, and particularly the Mental Health Facilitator, who addresses emotional issues during the divorce proceedings. Additionally, factors such as ethnicity, age, or sexual orientation of the couple can complicate the resolution of the divorce process. Age, gender and culture can influence how the shared parenting plan is determined, especially dependent on the age of the child/ren. Mental health, addiction issues, medical issues, sexual orientation or if one of the parents is on the spectrum (or the child) can directly have an effect on how the MHP writes up the plan.

The Collaborative Mental Health Facilitator plays a vital role in addressing, educating, and helping to resolve these matters.
