President’s Update – June 2021

FACP President's update divorce attorney

The two years of my Presidency of FACP have drawn to a close. With the hard work of this amazing community we have accomplished so much.

Our 9TH Annual Conference was live! It was amazing to meet new friends and to reconnect in person with old friends after COVID. To emphasize the importance of gathering again after all we’ve been through, our “through line” was: THIS MOMENT. THIS TIME. For those who were comfortable, we hugged and held those hugs. Reconnecting in person has so much meaning in THIS MOMENT. THIS TIME.

Thanks again to the Conference Co-chairs: Tammy Berman, Marie-Eve Girard and Karen Middlekauff along with Kim Nutter and her Content team, all of
whom made the magic happen.

Congratulations to our Award winners: The Rosemarie Roth Founders Award went to Dr. Deborah Day (Orlando) for her hard work as President of FACP from 2015 to 2017. The President’s Visionary Awards for Leadership, Innovation and Creativity went to Pamela Masters, Esq. (Daytona Beach) and Dr. Teresa Parnell (Orlando) for their tireless work and vision in creating access to the Collaborative Process for all, and to Evan Marks, Esq. (Miami) for establishing Collaborative Process as part of the curriculum for the Marital and Family Law Board Certification Exam.

Thanks so much to all of our retiring and continuing Executive Committee, Board members, and Committee Chairs and members. It takes a village, and you have all been an amazing village.

Thanks to all of our generous sponsors who leave FACP in better fiscal shape than it’s ever been, and to our Fundraising Chairs and team who graciously reached out and gathered those resources.

Thanks to the team that has birthed and nurtured the Accredited Collaborative Professional designation and process and to every member of our professional community who understands the value of becoming an Accredited Collaborative Professional.

There is no space here to name you all, and I never want to offend by leaving someone out. I appreciate and thank each and every one of you. I am truly overwhelmed by the hard work of so many of you. You know who you are.

I leave knowing that FACP is in great hands under the leadership of our incoming President Bob Merlin, Esq. (Miami) and our President Elect Marta Alfonso, JD, CPA/CFF/ABV (Miami), the new Executive Committee and Board and all the energy of this entire community.

I will take a moment for a personal note—thanks to my forever husband, Mike Baron, who supports me always and in all ways.

As I leave my role as President may I leave you with one more teaching from my tradition: Just because we cannot finish the work does not mean we are not bound to do what we can.  Please keep: Building consumer demand for Collaborative Process, creating innovative access to all for Collaborative Divorce, making the Collaborative professional community one that demands excellence and that is diverse, equitable and inclusive. I’m not going anywhere, I’ll be with you in that journey.
